Peruvian-Irish American Donna Bonilla Wheeler is a mixed-race writer, director, and filmmaker. Her focus is underdog non-mainstream characters fighting oppressive cultural norms, who possess extraordinary powers, talents, humanity, or insight. Projects are Nicholl SFs, NYSAF Filmmaker Workshop selects, Austin 2Rndrs, Slamdance, Gotham NoBorders, and STOWE Story Labs selects, and Sundance Workshop selects.
Donna created the CannesMIPTV invited TV series CLASH, an IndigenousLatine political action drama. Her feature and short films sold at Cannes, AFM, and Berlinale markets, and screen globally, including on major international SVOD / AVOD platforms (AppleTV, TUBI, Vimeo, iTunes, YouTube, AmazonPrime, Roku, etc).
She is a MIPTV Producer-to-Watch, Alliance of Women Directors Board Member, Industry Support Fellow, Film Fatales member, Women in Film mentee, and Sundance Institute Collab member. Her works are recipient of numerous artist scholarships and invites, and she is a jurist at multiple film festivals. She is co-founder of Broad Humor Film Fest, and creator of the #MentorLatinaDirectors Fellowship. She additionally writes + directs stage/theatre works, and branded, commercial content for global clients.
